Summer Concert at the Atrium: 8/9 @ 2 PM

“The Gates of Heaven”, Italian early Baroque music for voices and brass. Saturday, August 9, 2 pm, at the Atrium, 99 W. 10th Ave, Eugene. Ensemble Primo Seicento, with Sarah Benzinger, soprano; Doug Sears, cornetto and tenor; Bodie Pfost, trombone and bass; and Margret Gries, organ. This music, by early 17th century composers such as Dario Castello, G. P. Cima, G. B. Riccio, and G. M. Cesare, consists of motets for various combinations of voices or voices and instruments, as well as purely instrumental sonatas and canzonas, with continuo organ. It was intended to be heard in the very resonant acoustics of an Italian church, and the acoustics in the Atrium have a similar flattering and enriching effect on voices and especially on the sound of cornetto and trombone. Admission is free.
